V.C. Schools Hold Elections

Glasgow Voters Reject Levy for Fourth Year

Frazer, Opheim, Lustre and Glasgow schools asked voters to cast their ballot on May 7 to elect trustees to fill positions with some also asking voters to pass a school levy.

For the fourth consecutive year, Glasgow voters rejected a general fund levy request with a vote of 704 against and 658 for. This year’s request asked voters to pass a general fund levy proposition for the purpose of increasing teacher and support staff wages. The Glasgow Courier reached out to Superintendent Bob Connors and the Glasgow School Board Chairman Mona Amundson for comments regarding the failure of the levy, however no comment was given by press time.

Glasgow School also asked voters to choose one trustee to serve a three-year term. Voters chose incumbent Amundson to serve the term with 1,063 votes against Regina Cain who received 228 votes.

Only 41 percent of registered voters cast a vote, with a total of 1,368 votes cast out of 3,337 registered voters.

Frazer School asked voters to elect two trustees to each fill a three-year position. On the ballot were candidates Jewel Four Star Ackerman, Mary Sue Jackson, Adeline Smoker and Brockie Standing. Voters also had the chance to write in a candidate as well. With 74 votes, Jackson won one position while Smoker won the other position with 68 votes. Ackerman received 40 votes and Standing received 42 votes. Two voters wrote in candidates, Mike Cole and Shilo Fourstar, who each received one vote. No ballots were rejected.

Lustre Grade School asked voters to choose one trustee to be elected for a three-year term as well as approve a mill levy proposition to finance the school’s Building Reserve Fund. Voters voted in Robert Schiller with 67 votes to serve the three-year term while the other candidate, Daryl Toews, received 14 votes. Voters also approved the Building Reserve Levy with 66 votes for and 13 votes against. The levy will be utilized for maintenance and upkeep of the school building grounds, teacher housing and other building expenses.

Opheim School asked voters to choose one trustee to serve a three-year term. On the ballot was incumbent John Pankratz, receiving 91 vote and winning the seat, and Michael Fauth who received 56 votes.
