Ordering from Montgomery Ward

Do you remember ordering from the Montgomery Ward catalog?

I remember family stories of shipping cattle, mules and sheep to market via the railroad. I know that many provisions were brought back via rail on the return home. I remember a lot of grocery items were purchased in large quantities to bring home. I do not know if food items were purchased from Montgomery Ward, but I know that a lot of furniture came from Wards.

Did these early day residents receive some of these furniture pieces as bonus items? I recall seeing more than one old oak library table in early homes. Could they have been a bonus item or just a popular item of homemakers at that time?

I noticed that I have a blanket in my bedding closet that sports a Montgomery Ward’s tag, but I really think it is a more recent product. Many of us are aware that Glasgow still has a home purchased from Montgomery Ward that is still a nice residence for the home owner.

Now to let my mind wander a little—if some of the above mentioned items were purchased at the time of livestock sales and brought home via rail, how did the purchaser get from point A to point B to make the purchase and get it delivered to the railroad facility? I should maybe do a little research at the Pioneer Museum, just might find some answers.
