Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
The 21st-Annual Jeff Jurgens Memorial Tournament brought a lot of ballers to town March 16 and 17. More than 75 teams were registered for the event, which translates into hundreds of athletes looking to win a coveted JJMT hoodie.
The tournament is a major fundraiser for the Scottie Booster Club, and the logistics of organizing a successful tournament, especially a tournament as popular as JJMT, has to be challenging to say the least. Organizers are tasked with managing entries and fees, scheduling games at five different gyms in the community, securing qualified officials, clock workers, and ticket takers, making arrangements for concessions at each venue and more.
Teams come from all over the state and Canada, with five teams from Regina, Sask. making the trip this year.
The weekend always seems to go off without any major glitches, however, which is a compliment to the organizers, workers and volunteers that help make it all happen.
