Stat Ambulance Service in Glasgow has been recognized for their commitment to pediatric care by receiving the Level IV Gold Pediatric EMS Service with the Safety Plus Endorsement by the Montana Emergency Medical Services for Children’s Program (EMSC). In a press release, MT EMSC/Child Ready MT Pediatric Liaison stated, “Congratulations to the STAT Ambulance Service. They are formally recognized at the highest level-a “Gold” Pediatric Service with a Safety Plus Endorsement.”
Stat Ambulance is one of 11 EMS services in the state to receive the designation and one of five services in the state to receive the safety plus endorsement from EMSC. “We are so excited and honored to receive the designation,” stated EMS director Connie Wethern. “To find out we also received the safety plus endorsement was super exciting. I have a dedicated group of EMTs who are willing to through the training.”
In order to receive the designation, Stat Ambulance had to apply and show competency in levels including community involvement, CPR/First Aid classes and have car seat clinics to ensure a car seat is safely installed and a child is using the right one. “We have one EMT, Ashley Fossum, who is currently certified to provide education and information on car seats,” said Wethern. Now that at least one EMS is certified with another EMS member going through the trainings soon, the hope is to host community-wide car seat clinics in the future. “It doesn’t do any good to have a car seat that isn’t installed correctly or doesn’t safely restrain your child,” stated Wethern. In the meantime, Wethern welcomes anyone to contact her at 228-3648 and have your car seat checked.
EMS staff will also be completing various trainings throughout the year in order to not only keep the designation but to also ensure the best possible care is provided to the younger members of our community. “We have a very high elderly population so we aren’t able to keep our skills honed for children. The trainings will help ensure we provide them with the possible care all the time,” said Wethern.
The mission of Montana’s Emergency Medical Services for Children Program and the Child Ready MT Project is to implement a performance driven system of healthcare for pediatrics in Montana ensuring that children, no matter where they live, have access to the right care at the right time with the right resources.
