Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
This past weekend, several Glasgow High School students took to the school's stage to spell success with their performance of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. The show hit all the right notes with audiences as the local thespians sang and danced their way through a show that delivered plenty of laughs. The story of young students struggling with the pains of growing up showcased the dynamism of the students' creativity.
The Bee was a light-hearted romp with surprising depth, portrayed adeptly by each actor under the direction of Desiree Johnson. Students in the bee were played by Colin Jamba (Chip Tolentino), Cerenity Olsen (Logainne Schwartzandgrubennire), Sierra Ciafardone (Leaf Coneybear), Ian Wright (William Barfee), Kambria Ross (Marcy Park) and Tayte Prewett (Olive Ostrovsky). The "adults in the room" were portrayed by Isabelle Griffin (Rona Lisa Peretti), Tyler Fitzsimmons (Douglas Panch) and Fynn Sukut (Mitch Mahoney). Fitzsimmons and Sukut also took on the roles of dads to Olsen's Schwarzandgrubenniere. Colton Pewitt and Johnson made surprise cameo appearances as the absent parents of Prewett's Ostrovsky.
Several of the students made their first appearance on stage, but those in the audience would have been none the wiser. And three students, Pewitt, Ciarfardone and Jamba, made their last appearance. The three seniors were honored on Sunday by Johnson and musical director Luree Green-Chappell. Losing only three actors, local fans of the the school's performances can look forward to many more years of entertainment.
Additional support for the play was provided by Rachel Pewitt, line coach; Tayte Prewett and Rachel Pewitt, choreographers; Rachel Sigmundstad, music and props; and Joely Chappell, junior director.
