Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

Let the Bodies Hit the Boards

Saturday, Feb. 23, was a night of honor and hits. Glasgow honored their Senior Ice Dawgs and their families in a pregame ceremony. Bridger Barnett, Kayden Fossum, Taylor Johnson, Nick Lipszyc, Garrett Lloyd, and Colton Pewitt played their final home games at the Valley Event Center this weekend, and it proved to be a bruising weekend.

The Helena Big Horns were in town to face off against the Dawgs, and also apparently, to throw down. The action was fast and hard hitting. The penalties started at 4:56. Helena took a roughing call while Glasgow's Gage Siefert sat for slashing. Glasgow sounded the goal horn at 9:34 on an even-strength goal by Ian Peterson, assisted by Britten Fairclough and Lipszyc. With 3:01 left in the period, Colter Barnett sent the puck off the crossbar with an assist from Lipszyc off the face off. Kristian Price got the crowd rocking with his takeaway, breakaway, top shelf goal at 2:18, putting the Dawgs up 3-0. The frustration got to Helena's Hernandez, who was called for roughing and head contact, leading to a game misconduct and ejection.

Glasgow started the second period with a 5-on-3 advantage but couldn't convert on that, or the man advantage. The Dawgs managed a penalty kill of their own when B. Barnett served two minutes for slashing at 14:04. Matching roughing penalties at 12:30, Price in the box for Glasgow, did not fare as well for the Dawgs. Helena put their first goal on the board at 11:59. Glasgow ended the relatively quiet second period with a 3-1 advantage.

Unfortunately for the home team, the Big Horns had a big third period. Fossum was sent to the sin bin just 22 seconds into the period for holding. Helena wasted little time, putting in a glove side goal at 16:27 to cut the Dawgs' lead to one. Helena saw another penalty, check from behind, and a misconduct with 11:45 left, but Glasgow couldn't find the back of the net. Taylor Johnson served two minutes for kneeing at 8:30, but the defense held. Nick Burke served the penalty for Glasgow's too many men on the ice penalty at 16:52. The Big Horns tied the game on a stick-side power play goal at 5:11. The score didn't change, nor did the emotion. Koby Regalado took the last penalty of the game with only 8 seconds left for tripping.

Glasgow served 16 minutes on eight infractions while Helena chalked up 39 minutes on only 10 penalties. Lipszyc led the Dawgs in points with 2 on his 2 assists. Goalie Pewitt fended off 37 shots for a 92.5 save percentage.
