Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
School board elections countywide have commenced and will be held on Tuesday, May 7. The Glasgow School District will hold an election to fill one school board seat. They will also have an election to approve a general levy fund, "for the purpose of raising teacher and support staff wages for the 2019-20 school year."
The Glasgow School Board authorized the annual election at their last meeting, Feb. 13. Appointed to act as judges for the election are Avis Needham, Betty Cote, Diane Peterson and Janet Markle. Kelly Doornek will act as the election administrator.
According to the resolution, the election will be held by mail ballot only, meaning ballots must be mailed in or hand-delivered to the school administration office at 229 7th St North, Glasgow, by 8 p.m. on May 7.
To run for the school board seat interested persons must file a "declaration of intent and oath of candidacy" with the election administrator before March 28 if they wish to appear on the ballot. Write-in candidates can be filed following regular deadline until April 4 at 5 p.m. April 4 is also the last day candidates can withdraw from the election and still remove their names from the ballot.
Frazer, Opheim, Nashua and Hinsdale will also have mail-in elections to fill school board seats and approve general fund levies. Opheim will elect a trustee and approve a maintenance levy. Nashua will approve a funds levy and two trustees, one to complete a term and one to start a term. Hinsdale will approve levies for the elementary and high schools and to fill a trustee position.
In order to receive a ballot in the mail voters must be registered by April 8. Voters can still register after April 8 until election day with the county election administrator and receive their ballot. Voters will not be able to register the day before the election from noon to 5 p.m. due to Montana law.
