Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
Dear Editor,
I received my property tax bill the other day. Needless to say, it wasn't less than that of a year ago, which gave me pause to think.
I went back through my records to the tax year ending in 2013. It was a bit of a shock to say the least.
From the tax year ending in 2013 to the tax year ending in 2019, my property taxes will have increased nearly 70 percent.
Have these tax hikes resulted in increased County services? None that I can see, other than a welfare check for a private business, which in my opinion is dead wrong.
Can the increase be justified by "keeping up with inflation?" No, the Consumer Price Index has not risen anywhere near 70 percent in the last six years.
So where's the money going? I'd like to know. You may too.
Sincerely,
Hod Coburn
