Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
Remember all of the different flavors of chewing gum that were available to us in our teen years? Remember the old song, “Does your chewing gum lose its flavor on the bed post overnight? If your mother says don’t chew it, do you swallow it in spite?” I am not sure why some of these things pop into my head, but several memories flooded my mind when I thought of that old song.
How many of us remember, or have, bed posts that we might stick our gum on overnight, or for that matter, how many of us, young or old, would save our chewing gum for the next day? No one is that frugal anymore!
The flavor part is the thing – I bet it depended on just what flavor you chose. If I remember correctly, some of those old flavors lasted a lot longer than others. Juicy Fruit just didn’t hold up as well as maybe Blackjack, Cloves, Beeman’s or maybe Beech-Nut, and when did Bubble Gum come into the picture? Overall, I guess that saving my chewing gum for later, is not something that I miss.
I will admit that I had to look the song up on Google. (At least I remembered the title). Since we are now thinking of Thanksgiving I feel compelled to share the songwriter’s joke – if you were to cross a kangaroo with a turkey, could you stuff it on the outside?
