Scotties Fall From Football Playoffs in First Round

The 2018 Scottie football season came to a close on Oct. 27, following a loss to the Colstrip Colts. Despite the loss, head coach Pat Barnett described the game as, “Maybe the best game we played all year. We started strong and we finished strong.”

The Scotties faced the Colts on Aug. 31, to kick off the regular season and Colstrip dominated that entire game, defeating Glasgow 40-6. There was a marked improvement in the Scottie's performance during Saturday's first-round playoff game however, as they led 16-15 at the half. Barnett attributed the improvement to preparation and pointed out that the boys knew what to do and just played football.

Although the Scotties were unable to maintain the upper-hand, they continued to grind on the gridiron, likely shaking the confidence of the Colts and making them earn their eventual 27-16 win.

The Scotties finished with 364 total offensive yards, with quarterback Alec Boland completing 17 of 31 attempts for 271 yards.

With the absence of a few seasoned players for the game, sophomore Colten Fast stepped up and proved to be an asset to the team with eight catches and a total of 118 yards. Tayson Hoerster also continued his outstanding offensive season with four catches and 96 yards.

Contributing to the score for Glasgow were Dexter Monson with a 22-yard touchdown and John McColly with a 20-yard touchdown.

The Scotties finished the season with a 5-4 overall record, which is another notable improvement from last year. Although several key players are departing as seniors, the return of several core players, along with off-season work, will ensure an exciting 2019 season.
