Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital hosted their annual health and wellness fair this past Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Glasgow Civic Center. For over 20 years, FMDH has hosted the annual event in an effort to educate the public on issues and ailments facing the world.
This year was no exception and the fair featured 28 booths including displays as diverse as local law enforcement, the Valley County Health Department, Hi-Line Homes and various departments of FMDH including 5th Avenue Pharmacy, Patient Account Services and radiology. The MEGA Heart even made an appearance allowing all in attendance to walk through a replica of the human heart, complete with information on common heart deformities.
The Zimmer Biomet Mobile Learning Center (MLC) was also available for attendees to walk through and view all of the different orthopedic treatments options available. The MLC is a traveling education vehicle that provides training and education on the different orthopedic topics and treatment options. Attendees were able to see the different parts used in knee replacement surgeries and how joints can be artificially fixed to provide further motion. "It's amazing what technology can do nowadays," one attendee said while touring the center and marveling at the various equipment and displays.
"We put on a yearly health fair as a service to our community," explained FMDH Marketing Director Kyla Burns continuing, "We aim to increase the public's knowledge of health and wellness services that are offered in our area, as well as promote healthy living, disseminate important wellness information and offer screenings and flu shots."
Burns praised the great turn out from the public and the sentiment of community support, "It is truly a testament of our area's commitment to health and wellness to see so much community involvement. I was thrilled to see so much local participation this year."
In all, the fair administered 131 flu shots and handed out over 149 balloons to area children. Burns also praised the response to the mega-sized heart saying, "The MEGA Heart was a hit across the board, from young to old it had information . for everyone. It was 13 feet high by 15 feet wide by 26 feet long. We did private school tours on Friday to any classes in Valley County that wanted a chance to see it."
