Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
Glasgow 20, Cut Bank 8
With their Homecoming win on the gridiron against Cut Bank on Sept. 28, the Scotties secured a spot in the playoffs. "That was our goal," said head coach Pat Barnett of the milestone. "Now we have to make another goal. If we can get into the playoffs as the second seed, we can have another game on our home field. That's what we want."
To get there, Glasgow will have to get past Wolf Point this weekend and then Malta on Oct. 19. Although Wolf Point hasn't been making headlines this season, Barnett isn't ready to dismiss them as an opponent. "We didn't play them last year so I'm not familiar with them," he explained, "But we are not going to overlook them."
As for Malta: "We can beat them," said Barnett of the task. "If we get everybody back that is injured, we can do it."
Reflecting on Friday night's game against Cut Bank, Barnett thought the boys played well. "Our defense played better than people might think," he said. "Two goal-line stops? That's good." The Scotties held the Coyotes to just eight points in the contest.
He is also pleased with their progress in their pursuit of the ball. "We worked on that a little bit last week," he explained. "They didn't do that at all last year, so I'm happy with what we are doing now."
Still a problem? "The penalties," said Barnett with a shake of his head. "I don't know what to do about those yet. Some of them need to stop playing with so much emotion."
He also thinks the team isn't playing to their potential. "We should've rolled over Cut Bank," he explained. "We want to dominate in football. We want a running clock. We want to go home early."
The Scotties will have a chance to work on that goal when they face the Wolves in Wolf Point this Friday, Oct. 5. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
