The Allure of Old Pens

Recently, a friend gifted us with a large wooden cheese box full of pens and pencils of prior years. My thoughts kinda went to the “with friends like this, who needs enemies” but I will have to admit it was fun to look at each of these items and remember.

Pens from Markle Tranfer were in the box. There are still many that can recall when Markle Transfer was in business and just what the business was. Another pen that really caught my attention was from Wonder Krust Bakery. Who remembers Wonder Krust? The Pledge of Allegiance was actually written on this advertising pen, with the added line “Let us Re-Dedicate Ourselves to Americanism. Wonder Krust Bakery, Glasgow, Montana.” Wow, was that maybe like “Make America Great Again?”

There were also the fountain pens that you filled from an ink bottle and the more current Listo Lead or Black Sripto marker pens that was used most often to mark prices on your grocery cans, small parts or maybe clothing.

Being the saver that I am (unfortunately not in the finance department) you will find all of this “stuff” safely stored at my house, waiting for my survivors to throw away. And yes, they will need a large truck!
