Updated Vaccinations from VCHD

In our Back to School supplement that was included in our Aug. 8 issue, it was incorrectly stated that 11th-graders are required to have three vaccines before entering school. Students who are entering 11th-grade are not required to have any new vaccines.

For students who are 11-years-old, it is recommended to have the MCV4 (meningococcal) vaccine, the HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccine and the Hepatitis A vaccine. These three vaccines are not required for public school attendance through grade 12. However, many colleges do require the MCV4 for admission.

Students entering kindergarten are required to have the MMRV (measles, mumps, rubella and varicela) vaccine and the DTaP/IPV (Diptheria, Tetanus, acellular pertussis and inactivated poliovirus) vaccine.

Students entering seventh-grade are required to have the TdaP (tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis) vaccine.

The Valley Health Department encourages everyone to consider getting the recommended vaccines as soon as your child is eligible for their age. By getting the vaccines sooner rather than later, the child doesn’t associate the vaccines with school and families are able to arrange vaccines at time that is convenient for them.

If you have medical insurance, please bring your card and the Health Department will bill the insurance directly. The Valley County Health Department is located at 500 4th Avenue South, Glasgow. The Health Department is open for walk-in vaccinations from 2 to 5:45 p.m. on Mondays, and by appointment from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
