Kaiser Earns Second Consecutive High Point
The Glasgow Kiwanis Swim Team competed in Plentywood June 23 and 24, and finished with a strong performance from the two dozen swimmers that attended, according to head coach Nicole Arnold. With just one-third of the team competing, they secured third-place hardware. Senior swimmer Katie Kaiser swept her events for the second week in a row, earning high point in her age group.
Arnold highlighted the swimmers that led the team with first-place finishes: Jordan Billingsley (100m backstroke), Rachel Billingsley (200m individual medley), Peyten Birkoski (25m freestyle and 25m backstroke), Kaiser (50m freestyle, 100m backstroke and 400m freestyle), Ben Miller (100m breaststroke), Dalton Sand (100m butterfly), and Natosha Sand (100m butterfly).
"Other noteworthy performances came from the Sand siblings, Dalton and Natosha, as they took down very strong competition in their 100m butterfly races," said Arnold. "Jordan Billingsley also showed true grit in his 100m backstroke where he PR'ed by three seconds and put up a great time for this early in the season."
This week's GKST Athlete of the Week, voted on by the coaches, goes to Peyten Birkoski (8). According to Arnold, Birkoski had a breakout performance at the swim meet in the Bantam age division. "This was the first swim meet where she was able to place in the top three of all of her individual events," she explained. Additionally, she was able to drop a substantial amount of time in those events and swim a very competitive leg on a girls 9-10 relay. "Her hard work was displayed this weekend as she not only was the second-highest point earner for Glasgow," she said, "She was also the second-highest place earner in the entire Bantam girls' age division."
