Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
The Hinsdale FFA Chapter does community service projects in Hinsdale each year. The chapter maintains the FFA Park, learning lawn mower safety and learning how to operate the riding mower each spring. The FFA Park is located on US 2 and Montana Avenue (Main Street in Hinsdale). The students and community members take great pride in the FFA Park.
The area did not start out as a park. The FFA chapter did a community service project back in the '90s, removing old vehicles and equipment and cutting up of scrap metal that had been left on the property over the years. The chapter goal was just to make the area and the town look better. After the scrap was hauled away, the members decided to seed lawn grass rather than leave the ground bare; the grass grew. Then the grass needed to be mowed, so slowly but surely the area became a park, and the community now believes that it is the FFA Park. The Park is owned by serval absentee owners.
Today, the FFA members gain knowledge about landscaping, plants, and lawn care at the park, as well as lawn mower safety. The FFA officers make a mowing schedule and each member takes a turn taking care of the park for a week.
The members also grow and plant flowers for the Main Street planters. This year, their goal is to purchase four concrete garbage containers to add to Main Street. The containers will make the community look better and encourage people to put litter in its place.
