Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
Brett James Baker, age 34, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2018.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 24, at Bell Mortuary in Glasgow, with Pastor Mike Hammerly officiating.
He was born June 23, 1983, in Roosevelt, Utah, and grew up in Las Vegas, Nev. He graduated from the Las Vegas Academy High School where he excelled in the trumpet. His talent led him to be the lead trumpet player in the jazz band and he also played several times on the Las Vegas strip while still in high school. After graduating from the University of South Dakota at Vermillion, he taught at the Gayville, S.D. School and several other schools before settling in Glasgow and teaching at the Nashua School District. He had what is called perfect pitch, which is a wonderful benefit to a musician. He also performed standup comedy and loved to make others laugh.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn Jean "Carrie" Baker.
Survivors include his father, who lives in Johnson City, Texas; and four siblings, Marty, of Winner, S.D., Sue Baker Shirey of Coronado, Calif., David of Austin, Texas, and Jeff in Stockholm, Sweden.
He loved his students and coworkers in Nashua and will be missed by all who knew his big grin and beautiful music.
