County Positions Open

The 2018 political season is officially underway with key Valley County positions up for grabs.

Jan. 11 was the first day available for local members to file to run for various positions including clerk and recorder, commissioner, sheriff/coroner, attorney, public administrator, justice of the peace and treasurer.

Lynne Nyquist has announced she is retiring after 20 years as the elected Valley County clerk and recorder. Also announcing his retirement is Bruce Peterson in his role as Valley County commissioner representing District 3. They will both serve in their role until the end of 2018.

Some local members wasted no time in filing for some of these positions on the first day. As of press time, Mike Carney, Arlie Gordon, and Rene Clampitt have filed to fill the commissioner position; Brenda Anderson has filed for treasurer, Dylan Jensen for attorney. Luke Strommen has filed for sheriff/coroner and Taryn Stebleton has filed for clerk and recorder.

Filing to run for a public office position is open until Monday, March 12.
