Gerald 'Joe' Lee Alden

Gerald "Joe" Lee Alden passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017, at the Advanced Care Hospital of Montana in Billings, Mont.

A visitation will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 3, with family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. at the Bell Mortuary in Glasgow. His funeral service will be on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Evangelical Church in Glasgow, with burial to follow at the Highland Cemetery. A luncheon will follow burial back at the Evangelical Church.

He was born to Straud and Lenore (Fuhrman) Alden at Glasgow on March 15, 1941. He was four years old when his parents moved to a farm in the Fuhrman community near Larslan. When his dad died in 1965, Joe took over the family farm, enabling his mom to live the rest of her life there.

When his brother, George, graduated from college, Joe and he went into a life-time partnership in farming and ranching. Joe was a member of the Elks and served on the Opheim Farmers Union Board.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, playing cards, team roping and going to hear the elk bugle at Robinson Bridge, but he mostly enjoyed farming and all the equipment involved, especially tractors.

He dearly loved his nephews and nieces; great-ones and great-great-ones. Many of them had their first experience in camping, fishing, hunting and trail rides with "Uncle Joe" and Uncle George.

He was preceded in death by his parents, paternal and maternal grandparents, uncles Walter, Clarence, Mel, Earl, Jim and Ken; aunts, Ruth Gilbertson and Phyllis Campbell; brother-in-law Lee Eblen and cousins, Joyce Haven, Les Gilbertson, James Fuhrman and Travis Fuhrman.

Survivors include three sisters, Pat Fauth and her husband, Mark, Susan Fauth and her husband, Bob, and Jane Eblen; one brother, George Alden; three aunts, Barbara Bales and her husband, Barry, Phyllis Fuhrman and Shirley Fuhrman; four nephews Steve, Tom, Brad and Mike; six nieces, Margaret, Dawn and Michele, Marie, Nikki and Kristal; 26 great-nieces and nephews and 19 great-great-nephews and nieces.

He will be missed by family and friends but welcomed by his dad and mom. Memorials can be made to the donor's choice in his name.
