Fall Short of Team Hardware
The Glasgow Kiwanis Thunder competed in their final meet of the year in Lewistown August 5 and 6.
The team fell short of earning any hardware, but 16 of the 27 attending athletes advanced to finals the second day of the meet and several swimmers placed in the top twelve of their events.
Notably, three Thunder swimmers earned gold medals and state champion status. Katie Kaiser swept her events to lead the team in points, earning gold in the 50m freestyle, the 100m backstroke and the 400m freestyle. Dalton Sand finished with two first-place finishes in the 200m individual medley and the 200m freestyle, and a second-place finish in the 50m butterfly. Trevor Johnson completed his weekend with two gold medals: one in the 50m butterfly and one in the 100m butterfly, and a third-place finish in the 200m freestyle.
In addition, Kaiser and Sand snagged high-point recognition in their age groups.
Each of Glasgow's relay teams finished strong, placing ninth or higher in their competing class.
The Thunder's head coach, Nicole Arnold, announced two Athlete's of the Meet this week. "Allie Palm (10) and Katie Kaiser (16) are this week's GKST Athletes of the Meet", she said. "The two both had fantastic weekends filled with eventful races. Katie started the finals day by narrowly winning the 400 free with a new PR, and then taking two more firsts in the 50 free and 100 back, giving her true highpoint honors at the state competition. Allie advanced to finals in two individual events, and placed in both races. She cut a whopping 3.5 seconds from her preliminary time in the 50m butterfly to place ninth overall. As a first year swimmer to place in two individuals events at state is a huge accomplishment."
