The Fort Peck Sailing Club will be hosting their annual Can-Am Regatta this weekend, Aug. 11 – Aug. 13. The events will kick off Friday at 2 p.m., with a sailing seminar on the lake. The seminar will be open to the public for, “anyone curious about sailboat racing in general.” Following the seminar at 6 p.m., will be the “on shore dinner” or potluck at the sailing barn.
Saturday, Aug. 12, will launch the competition with registration beginning at 8 a.m., at the Marina and races starting around 10 a.m., going through 5 p.m. Saturday night, the club will also host a steak feed with benefit auction followed by “an acoustic jam session” featuring local musicians.
Sunday Aug. 13, will conclude the aquatic show of speed with races starting again around 10 a.m., and concluding at 2:30 p.m. The awards ceremony will follow the races.
To enter the race, participants can show up on Aug. 12, during registration from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. According to the sailing club’s website, “This regatta is open to all classes of sailboats, monohull or multihull, including but not limited to: Laser, Laser Radial, Laser 4.7, Hobie Cat, Seaspray, Fireball, Optimist, San Juan 21, McGregor 24.” All boats will be grouped by class with a handicap class for outliers to be judged accordingly.
