Opposing the American Health Care Act

Letter to the Editor

Many people do not know that most Montanans living with disabilities are veterans. As a caregiver, I've seen firsthand the difference the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid expansion has made in our community when seniors and people with disabilities were finally able to get healthcare. Senator Daines needs to oppose the American Health Care Act. If passed, it would slash funding for Medicaid and hurt working families and seniors especially those living Glasgow. Medicaid expansion has a positive impact on our community because it provides health services and it supports jobs at our local hospital and nursing homes. Several years ago, I helped advocate for Montana Medicaid expansion which really helped home care aides get health insurance. One of my union sisters is now alive because she could get treatment for a life-threatening illness. Her life is a testament that the ACA does saves lives. If Senator Daines votes for the AHCA, it would either mean he has no understanding of the devastating effect a repeal of the ACA would have or that he just doesn't care about Montana voters who are seniors, who live with disabilities, and children and families of low-incomes.
