Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
The Junior Master Gardener Program (JMG) is an educational youth project offered to students in grades four through six. Students enrolled in JMG will receive horticultural and environmental science education while also developing leadership and life skills through fun and creative activities. JMG is committed to helping young people become good gardeners and good citizens by encouraging them to make positive contributions to their families, their school, and their community. The program will provide attendees with structured time to learn new skills while encouraging students to foster civic responsibility and improve the academic curriculum of the student as well.
Classes will begin on April 3 and will continue on Monday afternoons for eight weeks with students gathering at Prairie Ridge Village’s meeting room. The classes will start at 4 p.m. and end at 5:30 p.m.
Participants will receive a JMG Handbook which contains individual activities designed to enhance the group activities. These projects and activities will allow the young gardeners to share their new knowledge with their families, friends and the community.
There is a charge for the handbook and supplies of $25.00, and a small number of scholarships are available. Registration is due on March 27, and forms are located at Irle School, East Side School and the Valley County Extension office located in the Valley County Courthouse.
