Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
Charles "Charlie" Henry Frost, 87, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017.
Funeral Services will be celebrated Monday, Feb. 27, at 1:30 p.m., at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Glasgow.
He was born June 10, 1929, to parents Henry M. and Josephine (Klein) Frost in Dubuque, Iowa, and was the youngest of four children.
He attended St. Anthony's Catholic School in Dubuque before joining the United States Marines in 1951. He served three years in the Marines, part of that time in Korea.
On April 24, 1954, he married Rose Marie DesJarlais. Four children were born from this marriage: Rita, Jolene, James and Steven.
While raising their children in Dubuque, he worked at the Water Treatment Plant. In 1968, he and his family moved to Fort Peck, where he started his job in the power house as a custodian, but sometime later moved back to Dubuque for two years before again returning back to the open arms of the people of Fort Peck. He worked as a guard before changing to power house mechanic from 1971 to 1989 for the Corps of Engineers.
He and Rose divorced in January of 1974. He continued to raise his children as a single parent until they were full grown.
Finding new love, he married Thelma L. Decker on Oct. 5, 1979. In addition to his four children, he would now share his love with Thelma's four children, Jacque, Stanley, Jody and Doug.
He and Thelma retired from the Corps of Engineers in June of 1989 and moved to Lewistown, after traveling the state to find their new home. In Lewistown they joined the Good Samaritan Camping Club, and often camping locally as well as traveling with their 5th wheel camper to Washington, Oregon, Iowa and Arizona, spending two, six-week trips to Arizona. Together he and Thelma made other trips within the United States and outside the United States to Germany, Mexico and Canada. Of his many travels, he especially loved going back to Dubuque to visit his sister, Virginia, and her family.
In earlier years, he taught his boys how to hunt and fish. He took his family on across-the-country trips camping, taking in the sights along the way. Later in life, he would find his love for wood working; whittling his diamond willow canes and making many holiday decorations and toys for family and extended family members. From day one, he was a dedicated flower and vegetable gardener. He was born with a natural green thumb, keeping his lawns and gardens beautiful and the envy of many.
In 2010, he and Thelma moved to Glasgow, and resided at Nemont Manor.
There was no one that he couldn't win over in friendship, no matter where he went. There was no one he couldn't make laugh or smile, he was a natural charmer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Josephine; one brother, Robert; one sister-in-law, Lucille; a sister, Lorraine and brother-in-law, Hugo; a sister, Virginia, and brother-in-law, Henry; one grandson, Devon Frost; a step-grandson, Kris Decker; a son-in-law, Ray Allie, and former wife, Rose Frost.
Survivors include his loving wife, Thelma, of Glasgow; four children, Rita Allie of Nashua, Jolene Debolt of Billings, James and his wife, Robyn, of Comfort, Texas, and Steve Frost and his wife, Michele, of Glasgow; four step-children, Jacque Burner of Glasgow, Stanley Decker and his wife, Diane, of Washington; Jody Nystrom and her husband, Mark, of South Dakota, and Doug Decker of Idaho; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and Deb Stein and Deb Carson, who knew Charlie as their second dad.
God bless you Charlie. You will be forever in our hearts.
