Scotties Fall to Lady Wolves and M-Ettes

The Lady Scotties lost ground in the conference standings last week, with losses to Wolf Point and Malta in two home games.

Glasgow faced the Lady Wolves Jan. 12 and the M-Ettes the following night on Jan. 13.

Wolf Point 53, Glasgow 45

Starting the game against the Wolves for Glasgow were Khloe Krumwiede, Lexi Nixdorf, Tyra Johnson, Jordan Kulczyk and Leinie Hughes. Demi Aune and Ashtyn Myrick also saw some time on the floor.

The game started with good energy and consistent scoring as Glasgow put up 17 points and Wolf Point put up 15 points.

Both teams lost some steam in the second quarter, however, each scoring less than 10 points. After the half, the girls returned to the hardwood with some renewed energy and more consistent scoring.

For the Scotties, Krumwiede could not be stopped as she scored 24 points in the game and grabbed 12 rebounds for the double-double. She also had a good showing at the charity stripe, completing seven of 10 attempts.

Hughes struggled offensively, although she finished with a respectable nine points. Defensively, on her way to grabbing nine rebounds off the boards, she was charged with five personal fouls and had to leave the game early.

For the Wolves, the key player was Mahala Shawl, who finished with 23 points.

Although it could be argued that Glasgow lost the contest at the free throw line, completing just 45 percent of their attempts, the Lady Wolves didn't perform any better, completing just 42 percent.

Malta 61, Glasgow 32

The Lady Scotties could not shake off the loss to Wolf Point, and lost their second game of the week to the Malta M-Ettes the following night.

In addition to the regular starting five, each of the remaining rostered players, Demi Aune, Anika Peters, DJ Rasmusan and Kaylee King, came off the bench during the contest. Peters, a first-year Scottie, earned her first varsity points during the game when she dropped two points in the second quarter.

The Glasgow girls definitely put their best foot forward in the game, out-scoring the M-Ettes 12-8 in the first quarter and frustrating the much talked-about Sophia Stiles by denying all of her attempts from the field.

Unfortunately, Stiles bounced back and began playing her typical aggressive game – eventually scoring 36 total points in the game. Stiles also demonstrated she is good at drawing fouls and made several successful trips to the free throw line, finishing 16 of her 18 shots.

Charged with those fouls for Glasgow were Krumwiede, Nixdorf, Aune and Kulczyk, who all finished with four fouls, and Hughes, who fouled out for the second game in a row.

None of the Lady Scotties cracked into the double digits for scoring. Leading the way was Kulczyk with nine, followed by Hughes and Nixdorf who each had seven points. Johnson had a team high of six rebounds during the game.

The Scotties will face the Sidney Lady Eagles at Scottie Gymnasium Thursday, Jan 19, and will host the North Country Lady Mavericks Saturday, Jan. 21.
