The Glasgow Scottie boys and girls basketball teams faced Scobey on Jan. 5 and Harlem on Jan. 7. The Spartans got the best of the Scotties in both games, while Glasgow defeated Harlem in both games.
Scobey 56, Glasgow 47
The varsity Scotties faced the Spartans at home in their first game of the week. Starting the game for the Scotties were Tyler Hersom, Trent Herbert, Brayden Ross, Cade Myrick and Luke Breigenzer, with Ellis McKean and Bryce Legare contributing off the bench.
While Glasgow outscored Scobey 19-13 in the first quarter, the Scotties couldn't match the determination of the Spartans and steadily lost ground for the remainder of the game. Turnovers were also a likely factor in the game, as Glasgow gave up possession of the ball 18 times.
The Scotties were very successful at the free throw line however, sinking 70.6 percent of their attempts, with Legare going 4-4. Scobey, in comparison, made only 37.5 percent of their attempts.
Although it probably didn't affect the overall outcome, Glasgow's Herbert fouled out of the game and was held to just eight points. Breigenzer, one of the top defensive players for the Scotties, had to dial it back a notch after earning his fourth foul late in the game.
Additionally, the Spartans held both Hersom and Myrick to single digits in the contest, allowing only 11 points between the two of them.
Ross led the scoring with 12, the only player for the Scotties to break into the double digits for the contest. He also led in rebounding, grabbing seven off the boards.
Glasgow 69, Harlem 44 (Boys)
The Scotties faced the Harlem Wild Cats in a conference match-up on Jan. 7. Glasgow outscored Harlem in each quarter of the game and earned the 69-44 win.
In addition to the five starters, McKean, Legare, Tayson Hoerster, Ben Miller, Alec Boland and Blaine Myrick all saw some time on the floor.
Ross again led the team in scoring with a total of 19 points – with 14 of those points scored in the first half of the game. Herbert and Myrick were able to score in the double digits in the game as well, with Herbert scoring the majority of his points in the third quarter.
The Scotties had another good game at the charity stripe, sinking 68.4 percent of their attempted free throws, going 19-13, and Legare again going 4-4. Harlem, on the other hand, only managed to complete two of six attempts (33.3 percent) at the line.
Myrick led the team in rebounds, pulling down 10 in the game.
The Scottie boys are now 2-0 in conference play. They will match up against the 0-2 Wolf Point Wolves on Thursday, Jan. 12 and the 3-0 Malta Mustangs on Friday, Jan. 13.
