Final Countdown

We are down to the final countdown for preparations for Christmas. And I am so guilty of procrastination this year! Not even a Christmas card sent and NO, I am not going to resort to Facebook greetings, even though I do enjoy seeing them on FB. Some of us do have a tendency to hold on to old time customs. It has been fun to watch some of the young kids perform for Christmas programs and I remember the programs held in country schools. You could count on some pretty good skits and verses being said and done. The advantage country schools had over bigger schools was the ability to work with kids from 1st to 8th grade. That was maybe a challenge but you got to work with children that could read, follow music, etc. Remember, no kindergarten then so it was no doubt a challenge for the 1st graders to do much reading.

You can always count on a good turn out for children’s programs. Parents and grandparents are sure to be there but in the days of country schools the whole community was there and Santa as well. Maybe it was a big social occasion because you didn’t have the choice of watching a good Christmas movie or football game at home. This is for remembering, not saying we need to go back to the past, but aren’t most memories fun! Wishing all readers a wonderful Christmas.
