New City Fire Truck on Order
Just following the opening and prior to the bustle of normal business at the City Council Meeting on Sept. 19 the Council voted to approve the City Volunteer Fire Department’s purchase of a 1997 Pierce Fire Truck for $145,000. Chief Brandon Brunelle told the Courier that the truck is in excellent condition and that the consulting mechanic they hired to look at the engine told him it was, “in immaculate shape.” Chief Brunelle stated that Pierce Fire Engines are among the best trucks out there and that this particular model was an “105 foot crank capable of being both a pumper and a ladder truck.” Chief Brunelle also clarified that the money used to purchase the truck came straight from the department’s line budget and wouldn’t require any extra money from the people of Glasgow. He also said the truck should arrive by the end of Oct.
Also on the agenda the City Council declined to accept the transfer of the Red Rock Plaza Park, where the farmers’ market takes place, from the County. The County’s intent, according to Rob Kompel, was that the city could better maintain the park for the farmers’ market. The justification for not accepting the transfer came from City Attorney Pete Helland, who issued a memo stating that the liability from petroleum pollution that occurred on site would not make the property worth while to the city. As a result the City Council agreed and did not undertake the transfer from the county.
The only other agenda item outside normal business was that the Northeast Montana Pet Rescue animal shelter permit was tabled for the time being. Rob Kompel said that it was on hold, because the applicant is currently planning to move to another address making the current application unnecessary, but that it would be taken back up after the new address was available.
