Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
Two 2B matches kept the Scottie volleyball team very busy last week.
On Sept. 8, they hosted rival Wolf Point in a four set match. They eventually won 26-24, 25-21, 22-25, 25-23, but it was a battle all night.
Wolf Point came armed with size, strength and will-power that tested the Scotties on every play. GHS succeeded in outscoring them, but as the numbers indicate, this was no easy feat.
Injury forced GHS to move their lineup around and shake things up a bit, but down the road this will serve them well as the squad continues to improve in depth.
The Wolves and the Scotties both came out on top of some scrappy volleys and provided a high level of excitement for all in attendance.
The Harlem Lady Cats welcomed the Scotties to their gym on the afternoon of Sept. 9, and again the competition was fierce. Never has there been a stronger Harlem team, filled with determination to always play feisty volleyball.
After many set points for both teams, the Scotties finally emerged as the winners of the match 25-16, 27-25, 28-26. Diving saves and accurate spikes from both teams were the name of the game, much to the crowd's delight.
The display of sportsmanship and camaraderie was exemplary - as always, both teams showed mutual respect before and after the match.
Both Harlem and Wolf Point offer wonderful atmospheres for competition, but none rival the raucous noise level of Scottie Gymnasium. In the heat of the moment, GHS definitely carries the 12th man advantage.
This homecoming week, the Scotties will face Malta Thursday, Sept. 15 and Poplar on Saturday, Sept. 17.
