Glasgow Hosts Invitational Swim Meet

Thunder Finishes Fifth, Krumwiede Shines

The Glasgow Kiwanis Swim Team welcomed 280 swimmers over the Fourth-of-July weekend for their annual invitational meet.

Events started the morning of July 2 at 10 a.m. after Glasgow resident Hannah Mickelson sang the national anthem for the crowd.

Most of the races held on the first day of a meet are preliminary, so it's not unusual to have several heats for a single event. With 11 teams competing, it made for a busy day, but with parents tackling their duties head on and Auzzy's Cook Shack feeding the crowd, things went well.

The morning of July 3, the meet started with another presentation of the national anthem by Glasgow Thunder swimmers Ava Reyes, Tommi Prewett, Grace Reyes, Kimber Dulaney, and Riley Clampitt.

An early morning thunderstorm left the park – and most of the campers - soggy, but the sun came out and the day continued without any more rainfall.

The Thunder placed fifth overall behind Scobey, Sidney, Lewistown, and Chinook. Some notable accomplishments from the weekend: Ava Reyes cut 25 seconds in the 200m individual medley (IM), and rookie Tommi Prewett shaved more than 10 seconds from her 50m butterfly. Kate Parks also dropped time in the IM (17.66 seconds), and Ben Miller cut more than 17 seconds off his previous time in the 400m freestyle. Sophia Larson dropped nearly 10.5 seconds off her previous time in the 100m IM, and Abigail Kulczyk improved her time in the 50m backstroke by nearly 11 seconds. Jackson Bishop, another first-year swimmer, swam his 50m freestyle nearly 15 seconds faster than his previous time. By far, however, the most improvement was shown by Torrance Braaten and Damian Cable. Both swimmers are new to the team this year. Cable improved his time by more than 36 seconds in the 50m freestyle, while Braaten cut nearly 45 seconds off her time in the 100m freestyle.

Senior swimmer Khloe Krumwiede finished the meet with first place in all three of her events, earning her high-point honors in her age group. The Thunder will head to Glendive for their invitational meet this coming weekend.
