The Glasgow Reds faced the Miles City Mavericks in their first home games of the season on Saturday, June 4.
It was a beautiful day for baseball, and the Reds took advantage in their first game of the afternoon, defeating the Mavericks in their only win of the weekend.
Miles City scored the first run of the game in the top of the second inning, and another two in the top of the third before Glasgow could answer with six runs in the third and fourth innings. Despite an attempt from the Mavericks to rally in the sixth inning, the Reds held them off and finished the game with a score of 7-5. Winning pitcher Kasey Seyfert did some work on the mound, pitching all seven innings for the Reds.
Offensively, Brett Glaser recorded two hits and two RBIs, while Alex Fransen brought in two runs as well. Tyler Hersom led the Reds in quality at bats, with three.
In the second game of the double header, the Mavericks knocked the Reds down a few notches, scoring 11 runs off 15 hits and winning the game 11-5.
Fransen pitched the first three innings of the game, allowing four runs and striking out three. Coach Jack Sprague took Kristian Price from first base to work on the mound in the fourth inning, but he struggled to deny runs, and the Mavericks scored five. Chase Guttenberg finished the game with the best results, allowing only two runs in.
At the plate, Korbin Cole had three hits and Hersom had another game of high quality at bats for the Reds.
The following day, the Reds hit the road to face Miles City on their home diamond in another double header. The Mavericks out-hit the Reds nearly 3-1 for the day, and Glasgow's young, inexperienced team succumbed to the mercy rule in both games. Final scores: 18-4 and 17-3.
The Reds will be in Havre June 9-12 for the Northstars Memorial Tournament, and on the road again the next week for the Harold Gjerde Memorial Tournament in Lewistown.
