Venice Marlene Johnson

Venice "Marlene" Johnson, age 82, of Glasgow, Mont., passed away at the Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital on Tuesday, May 24, 2016.

She was born on Nov. 9, 1933, in Vernal, Utah, to Ross and Venice Rooks. She attended and finished school in Rangely, Colo. She attended two years of college at Mesa State College in Grand Junction, Colo., where she studied to be a teacher for physical education.

As a child, she enjoyed horseback riding, playing with her dog, crocheting, embroidery and spending time with her family on the farm.

She married the love of her life, Donald Johnson, on Oct. 11, 1959, in Las Vegas, Nev. They lived in Vernal until moving to Gillette, Wyo., in 1968. She and Donald spent 40 wonderful years together until Donald's passing in 1999. They enjoyed bowling and spending their weekends camping together.

She enjoyed crocheting, embroidery and playing pinochle, as well as taking care of her flowers and yard. She loved spending time with family and friends and was part of the United Blood Services for many years. She also loved going on bowling trips all over Wyoming with her grandson, Michael.

She was an independent spirit who fiercely loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Johnson, and her parents, Ross and Venice Rooks.

Survivors include one brother, Leo Rooks, and his wife, Debra, of Vernal, and their children, Dylan, Dustin, Anjanette and Ashlee; two sons, Brit Johnson and his wife, Jeannie, of Texas, and Darin Johnson and his wife, Lori, of Denver, Colo .; four grandchildren, JoAnna Turner and her husband, Jake, of Nashua, Michael Johnson of Nashua, David Johnson of Texas, and Liam Renner of Glasgow; five great-grandchildren, Tyler and Trevor Turner of Nashua, Makiah Johnson of Gillette and Nevaeh and Emma Johnson of Texas; as well as extended family, Ann Williams and her husband, Duane, of Nashua and Billy McGee and his family, Chris McGee and his wife, Sierra, and Shadyx and Scarlett.

A visitation was held on Thursday, May 26, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bell Mortuary in Glasgow. A graveside burial took place at 1 p.m. at the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Gillette, on Friday, May 27, 2016.
