Evelyn (Wisecarver) Scott, 81, of Bedford, Va., passed quietly on Saturday, April 30, 2016, while on vacation in her beloved Montana.
She was born Jan. 22, 1935, in Penniman, Va., to Carlisle and Mina (Elliott) Wisecarver. She graduated from Rustburg High School, earned her bachelors and masters from Lynchburg College and received her doctorate from the University of Virginia in 1986.
She was married to Neil Scott, also of Bedford, for 25 years.
She taught in Bedford County Schools from the 1950s to the 1970s. She moved to Montana in 1978 and taught on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation for approximately 20 years. After retiring, she split her time between Montana and Virginia.
She was a Reiki master and a teacher, a long-standing member of the Lions Club. She greatly enjoyed playing Mexican Train (dominoes) with family and friends in both states.
Proceeding her in death were three brothers and a sister.
Survivors include daughters Shelly Lee Woodridge and her husband, John, and Sharon Preston Jones and her husband, James; a son, Shearl Laird Scott and his wife, Joyce; grandchildren, Clifton B. Woodridge and his wife, Kelly, Gabrielle P. Rich and her husband, Brandon, Cari W. Moore and her husband, Heath, Neil Reynolds, and James E. Jones III; one great-grandchild, Rosemary N. Preston; one sister, Ann W. Wisecarver; one brother, Charlie Wisecarver and his wife, Jeanette; and numerous nieces, nephews family and friends.
A celebration of life was held Wednesday, May 18, at 1 p.m. at the Town Hall in Saint Marie.
