Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
Helmuth Hans Schmitt passed peacefully Saturday, April 23, 2016, in Spokane, Wash. He lived a full and active life until the very end. He was 72 years old.
He was born in Glasgow, Mont., Aug. 26, 1943, to Charlotte and Ludwig Schmitt. He was the fourth of four children, two of which preceded him in death, Erwin and Werner. He was in the U.S. Army Reserves, worked for the United States Forest Service and then Metro (King County) Transit. He retired in 2009 and enjoyed the last seven years in Spokane gardening, tending to his Scottish terriers, spending time with his family and enjoying the things he loved.
He loved classical music, Dulcimer and German music and culture. As in life, he was selfless and he chose to donate his organs to those who need them. His ashes will be located in the Waverly, Wash., cemetery. He wants to be remembered with this line: "I loved my family, my friends, my heritage and my Scotties."
Survivors include Randy, Todd, Jaleen, James and William (Hans); two grand-daughters, and one brother, Alfred, who he loved very much.
