Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

Elizabeth 'Betty' Heffner

Elizabeth "Betty" Heffner, 90, of Glasgow, Mont., left to be with the angels Wednesday, April 27, 2016.

She was born July 7, 1925, in Karlsruhe, N.D. She was one of 13 children. She married LeRoy Klimplein in 1943, and they had three children: Larry in 1944, Diane in 1947 and Gary in 1950. She then married Jack Kremer in 1950 and had four more children: Dennis in 1951, Loretta in 1953, Patrick in 1955 and Jeff in 1962.

She lived in Velva, N.D., until 1995. She then relocated to Glasgow for the remainder of her life. She worked in food service all of her life and was an amazing cook. She cooked at Emil's Coffee Shop, Star Lanes, Knutsen's Nursing Home and Souris Valley Care Center.

She loved gardening, started as a young mother in Velva, and continued after her children grew up. She would share vegetables with her children and grandchildren until her late 80s. She grew a community garden next to Nemont Retirement Home, where she continued to donate vegetables to Nemont, and share with friends and family.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Thomas, Joseph, Bruno, Jacob and Bennie; five sisters, Lena, Mary, Francis, Katie and Myrtle; and two sons, Larry and Gary.

Survivors include sisters, Rose of Great Falls, and Pauline of Minot, N.D.; daughters, Diane of Glasgow, and Loretta and her husband, Steve, of Helena; sons, Pat and his wife, Maggie and Jeff, both of Velva, and Dennis of Sherman, Texas; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

She and her sense of humor will be missed.

A Memorial Service was held at Bell Mortuary on Saturday, April 30, 2016, at 1 p.m. with Deacon Ed Malone officiating followed by burial at the Highland Cemetery.
