The Alpha Zeta chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma recently sponsored their 25th annual writing contest. This year’s theme was “Celebrating Friendship.” The contest is open to all students K-12 in public and private schools in Phillips County and Hinsdale. Over 300 students entered their essays for a chance to win cash prizes.
2015 marked the 65th anniversary of the comic strip Charlie Brown. Through Charlie Brown and the Peanuts Gang, we have learned valuable lessons on friendship, being kind, persistence, self-image, overcoming fear, and doing what we love. Students used these ideas to write about friends and friendship in their lives.
Entries were grouped by grade levels (K, 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, and 9-12) and judges named a first- second- and third-place winner, along with honorable mentions at each level. A grand prize winner was selected from the first place winners in each division. An awards program was held March 31 at the Malta High School Auditorium where award winners read their essays to a large crowd of supportive parents and relatives.
