Guttenberg Honored at Event

Snack-Pack Program Still Needs Help

By now, you've probably heard about Morgan Guttenberg and her recent efforts to address childhood hunger in Glasgow.

As previously reported in the Courier, Guttenberg is in the process of putting together a Snack-Pack program for the elementary students in the Glasgow Public School system. The idea originated after she attended a retreat regarding the growing problem of childhood hunger in Montana. At the retreat, she learned about actions that could be taken to help end this problem. Her goal with this program is to provide healthy snacks on the weekends to those children in need.

Guttenberg has taken on the daunting task of initiating a local program that will help fight childhood hunger. Better than that, if that's possible, she wants to develop a process that will allow the program to be sustainable long after she graduates.

That alone deserves recognition, and recognition is what she's getting.

On April 3, Guttenberg accompanied local business woman, Sarah Partridge, and GHS Principal Shawnda Zahara-Harris to a fundraising event held in Big Sky.

The three were guests at the Jed Steele No Kid Hungry fundraiser, which consisted of an amazing five-course meal prepared by Executive Chef Scott Mechura of Bucks T4 in Big Sky.

In addition to the meal, Chuck Schomer, owner of Bucks T4, Lt. Governor Mike Cooney, Jed Steele of Steele Wineries, and Lisa Lee of No Kid Hungry, all spoke on the topic of childhood hunger in Montana, highlighting many solutions that schools all over the state are implementing to address the issue.

During the event, Guttenberg was introduced to the crowd of nearly 100 people while her efforts were highlighted and the details of her project were shared with the attendees.

With her involvement on the Governor and First Ladies Youth Leadership Council, Guttenberg has a vital role in addressing youth hunger around the state, and is making an impact right here at home. To be honored by the caliber of people at the event demonstrates just how deep that impact is.

Partridge does not hesitate to commend Guttenberg and her efforts, stating, "I was so proud to have her as my guest, and to witness her poise while sharing her project with others from around the state. She is a remarkable young lady." Guttenberg is active in our community and school – both academically and athletically.

With the help of 23 fellow students on Saturday morning, Guttenberg collected food items around town. The response from the community was excellent. If you would like to donate items, you can contact Morgan by leaving a message for her at GHS at 228-2485.
