Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
As a 19 year old living in Glasgow, I belong to quite an interesting demographic: a community full of Republicans and a generation full of Democrats. Old people vote conservative because they hate taxes and young people vote liberal because they want free college. I’m neither. In my opinion, one should not base their political vote on another’s opinion, but their own.
How am I supposed to support a conservative candidate who denies climate change, or a liberal candidate supporting gun control laws? As a firm believer in fact (or science, whichever term you prefer), I can’t believe there are people in the world who still believe the “scientists” sponsored by big oil when they say climate change isn’t occurring. As a Montanan, I understand guns make us safer and they don’t kill people. Crazy people kill people.
Why would I want to vote for Hillary, who puts her personal interests above the American people’s, Bernie, a socialist, or Trump, who is an absolute mockery of American politics? The thing is, I shouldn’t have to. But our system in America is currently flawed and needs a makeover.
The founding fathers wrote the Declaration of Independence, The Constitution, The Bill of Rights for a reason. Freedom. Americans should be able to choose their own candidate, not be forced to vote for or against a candidate they have no interest in. In future election years, I hope to see three, four, thirteen candidates on the presidential ballot. This way, people can accurately vote for a reasonable choice within their political ideals, making the democratic system in America actually mean something, instead of being just a popularity contest.
