Have you ever wondered why the Easter Bunny and Easter eggs are a part of our Easter observance and tradition? I did take the time to check that out this morning before going on this little trip down memory lane.
The wonders of the present day; I can sit in my chair with a cup of coffee and get all of that information. While I have absolutely convinced myself that I am not going to get a “Smart Phone,” I also realize how much easier they have made “instant knowledge.” I now have an interpretation I like, and for those of you who have let that question enter your mind, check it out and find your interpretation.
Do you remember Easter egg hunts in your past? Our family was lucky enough to be able to color lots and lots of eggs, usually on Good Friday, or maybe Saturday. Hunting for those eggs after everyone enjoyed a traditional Easter dinner was a highlight for the younger ones and continued for as long as they could talk someone into hiding them again. Being country, I don’t remember community egg hunts as well, but I do seem to remember the local Kiwanis Club (men only at that time) dyed real eggs for the kids to hunt. Maybe these eggs were cooked and dyed in the basement of the (new at that time) Elks Club. Wow, I wonder how many dozen eggs that involved, and who got to do the hiding? Were eggs donated for the purpose or purchased? I am betting the little ones enjoyed hunting those real eggs as much or more as the young ones enjoy finding the candy ones of today.
A plus to our rural living is the fun of seeing a bunny or two along the streets of town or area roads on Sunday morning.
