Wheatgrass Artist of the Month: Jason Brock

Wheatgrass Arts and Gallery in downtown Glasgow will be holding a First Friday Art Exhibit of Wolf Point artist Jason Brock’s paintings this Friday evening, April 1, at 5:30.

Brock was born and raised in Wolf Point, where in grade school he fell in love with doodling - an interest that became a love for art, eventually pushing him to attend Dickinson State University in pursuit of an art degree. Since returning to Wolf Point from Dickinson, however, family life superseded his art and his return to creativity has mostly been, as he says, “knocking the rust off.”

Brock mixes mediums in order to push the envelope of being creative. His paintings find beauty in emotion, which he says “keeps it fun;” he’s able follow the flow of what he’s seeing or feeling and create without a plan. In Wheatgrass this Friday, one of the most eye-catching paintings is a large, multi-colored abstract piece. Brock is generally a self-professed “details guy,” but felt inspired to attempt abstraction, resulting in a beautifully immersive canvas of colorful paint strokes.

This month’s featured artist is multi-faceted. While he channels everything into his art, Brock is also a tattoo artist and coaches football in Wolf Point and high school track for Frazer. Most of all, however, Brock is a father. He says, “All three of my kids push me in art. My kids are my world.”
