The Nashua boys and girls faced Dodson on Saturday, Jan. 2, and both teams prevailed over their opponent.
In the first game of the night, the Lady Porcupines defeated the Lady Coyotes with a final score of 52-30. The game was relatively quiet until the fourth quarter, when the Nashua girls exploded offensively and put 26 points on the board.
Scoring for Nashua were: Anika Peters, 13 (top scorer); Taylor Laumeyer, 6; Ziggy Chamberlain, 10; Sophie Koessl, 3; Cordelia Nickels, 12; Ali Cunningham, 1; Mattea Piersak, 1; Tasha Chamberlain, 5. Peters and Nickels each dropped a three-pointer during the game.
Shontelle Talks Different led the scoring for the Lady Coyotes with 9 points. Also contributing: Donna Dale, 4; Kailee Henry, 6; Shania Kill Eagle, 4; Serena Cuts The Rope, 1; Christina Jaynes, 6. Talks Different scored two three-pointers for her team.
The Lady Coyotes led the game in penalties with 21 fouls earned and two of their girls fouling out of the game entirely. The Lady Porcupines earned 16 fouls of their own, but managed to keep everyone in the game.
Following the girls, the Nashua boys were confident when they stepped on the court. Dodson put a chink in that confidence when they outscored the Porcupines 9-3 in the first quarter. Gathering their determination for the rest of the game, Nashua displayed more consistency and eventually prevailed over the Coyotes with a score of 50-39.
Leading Nashua in scoring for the night was Senior Lane Nickels with double deuces. Dalton Kautz scored 12, Nolan Viste, 5; Dylan Sanner, 4; Gunner Greene, 3, and Colton Yoss, 1. Nickels dropped three three-pointers and Viste and Kautz each had one.
The top scorer for Dodson was Jasper Doney with 10, but really, the team displayed some balanced scoring overall. Also scoring were: Tyrese Messerly, 5; Lane Walling, 6; Shaun Ball, 4; David Jaynes, 5; Cleo Cole, 9.
Similar to the girls game, Dodson had a high number of fouls with 22, and two of the boys fouled out of the game. Nashua showed much more restraint and only had 9 fouls in the game.
