U14 Girls Have Work to Do
The Valley Event Center was a busy place this last weekend, with the Ice Dawgs hosting several games.
The U19 and U14 Lady Ice Dawgs each faced teams from Watford City this past weekend. The outcome of those games were decidedly different, with the U19 girls skating off with another win and the U14 girls unable to score against their opponent.
The girls' games started Sunday morning with the U14 Lady Dawgs facing off against the Oilers in an 11:00 game. Glasgow was unable to score against Watford City and ultimately lost the game 6-0. Goalie Lizzy Nyquist stopped 32 of the 38 shots aimed at her. In comparison, Glasgow only had eight recorded scoring attempts during the game. Head coach Paul Provencher is planning a couple weeks of good practice before their next scheduled game.
The U19 Lady Ice Dawgs were able to shut down the older Oilers in an afternoon game on Sunday. Starting the game off with a goal in the first period was senior Alex Simensen with an assist from Kennedy Schmidt.
The action dried up until the third period, when Glasgow found the back of the net three times before Watford City finally answered with their one and only goal of the game. Scoring in the third period were Brett See, Teagan Fossum, and Madison Knodel with Bailee Holstein, Josey Uphaus, Knodel, and See all assisting. Goalie Autumn Gault had a relatively easy time of it with only 27 shots aimed her way during the game.
Head coach Ken Schmidt said the girls played hard and came away with the win, but also said, "There were a ton of opportunities we didn't capitalize on." He added, "I couldn't believe the number of times the puck was just sitting in front of the net and we couldn't get it in.".
The U19 girls head to Wahpeton this coming weekend for some tough games against Bismarck. They will also face Hazen on Saturday.
You can also catch several home games this weekend at the Valley Event Center. The Mites will be playing Miles City on Saturday, and the Bantams will be hosting Helena one game Saturday and one game Sunday. Check the Valley Event Center's website for more information at hlyh.org.
