A memorial service is planned for 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 8, at the First Lutheran Church in Glasgow with Pastor Scott Hedegaard officiating. Burial will follow at a later date in Jamestown, N.D. Following the funeral service, the family invites everyone to Sunnyside Golf Club for refreshments and fellowship.
He was born Feb. 8, 1956, in Jamestown, the son of John “Jack” and Ione (Frederick) Brownson. He attended Blacks Kindergarten, Washington Elementary School and Jamestown High School before moving with his parents to Glasgow in 1972. While living in Jamestown he was a Cub Scout, member of the youth choir of the Presbyterian Church, American Legion Baseball bat boy, drummer in the school bands and high school wrestler. Upon moving to Glasgow he entered high school, becoming a drummer in the Scotty Band and a member of the Speech and Drama Class, where he won several awards.
After graduation (Glasgow High School Class of 1974), he pursued many interests, selling insurance for several months before returning to Glasgow where he joined a rock band as a drummer. After traveling with the band for a year, he again returned to Glasgow to work for the City-County library and running the Bookmobile. In 1978 he enrolled at Brown Institute in Minneapolis, Minn., where he earned a license in radio and television media, a career that he never pursued; instead he became a driving instructor until that company closed. He was hired by Carlyle Plastics (later Tyco) for the next 15 years. Returning to Glasgow he worked for Pamida and was presently employed by Shopko.
He was preceded in death by his father and two infant brothers.
Survivors include his mother, Ione Brownson, of Glasgow; one son, J.D. and his wife, Tami, of Brainerd, Minn .; four grandsons, Jay Scott II, Chase, Connor and Caden; one brother, John, of St. Cloud, Minn .; three nieces, Linsi (David Betz) of Costa Mesa, Calif., Kari and Sarah Brownson of St. Cloud; a special friend, Carole Kickland of Glasgow; and many loving cousins.
