U19 Girls Pick Up Four Games in Havre

Final Tally for Glasgow: 1-3

Deep into December, the Lady Ice Dawgs are just about halfway through hockey season. This past weekend they picked up four games in Havre. The purpose of those games was mostly for the girls to gain eligibility to play in the Montana state tournament in February. According to Coach Ken Schmidt, the girls are required to play at least three games in Montana during the season in order to be eligible to play in the Montana state tournament.

The first game of the weekend was Saturday morning vs. Missoula. Scoring the first goal of the game, Missoula maintained the pressure on Glasgow and squeaked out a win by one goal and a final score of 3-2. Both goals of the game for the Lady Ice Dawgs were scored by Bailee Holstein, with assists from Madison Knodel and Emily Kolstad. Goalie Autumn Gault stopped the puck 16 times. The Lady Dawgs also managed to come away from the game penalty free.

That afternoon, the girls once faced off against Missoula again for their second game. Although it started a little slow with neither team scoring in the first period, the Lady Ice Dawgs amped things up in the second and scored three goals before it was over. The third period brought two more goals for Glasgow and a final score of 5-0. Goalie Autumn Gault captured another shut out for the season, and scoring goals in the game were: Teagan Fossum with an assist from Knodel; Kennedy Schmidt from Josey Uphaus and the reverse with a goal by Uphaus from Schmidt; Alex Simensen from Uphaus and Schmidt; and Kolstad from Simensen.

The last game they played on Saturday was against Bozeman, and the Lady Dawgs fell with the biggest scoring gap of the weekend. Bozeman found the back of the net three times in the first period before Simensen was able to score unassisted for Glasgow’s only goal of the game. Bozeman managed one more goal in the second period to finish the game with a score of 4-1. Gault racked up 23 saves.

Glasgow faced Bozeman again Sunday morning for their fourth game of the weekend. “Playing just one game in a day is tough, much less three,” said head coach Ken Schmidt, “so I’m sure the girls were tired from the day before. We gave them all we had, but just couldn’t come away with a win.” Uphaus put one in the net with an assist from Kolstad, and Holstein scored her third goal of the weekend with an assist from Knodel and Jaycee Wixson. Gault logged her highest number of saves during the game, but Glasgow ultimately fell to Bozeman with a final score of 3-2.

Glasgow won’t meet up against Missoula and Bozeman until February at the State tournament. Overall, Schmidt was pleased with the way the girls played. “They played hard all weekend,” he said. “We didn’t need to win, but it was good to get some extra games in.”
