Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

Arlene J. Halverson

Arlene J. (Erickson) Halverson, 85, passed away Thursday, Nov. 17, 2015, in Billings, Mont.

She was the first of 11 children, and was born on Feb. 11, 1930, to Arlie and Ione Erickson in Williston, N.D. The other children born to them were Phyllis, Mavis, Elaine, Janet, Marvin, Kenny, Ron, Larry, Shirley and Sharon.

A few years later, Arlie, Ione and family moved to Peerless where Arlene attended Peerless School and graduated from PHS in 1947 as valedictorian. She then attended school in Havre and taught at a country school (Prairie Dell) for two years.

On Sept. 10, 1949, she married Ruben L. Halverson. To this union, three children were born, Cheryl, Sheila and Brian. For the next 35 years they lived on the farm 17 miles south of Peerless.

Ruben passed away in January of 1985. Arlene continued to live on the farm for the next 24 years.

In 1996 she and Gaylord Miner developed a special friendship and enjoyed traveling together, dancing, playing cards and attending numerous social events. In 2009, she moved to a new home in Scobey where she kept active with the American Legion Auxiliary, a women's card group and attending many of her grandson, Devin's sporting events and concerts. She also loved taking care of her yard and working in her flower beds. In 2014, her family convinced her to go with them on an Alaskan Cruise. This was quite memorable as she had never been on a cruise before and one of her grandsons (Eric) got married to Marianna on that cruise.
