Team Will Host 'Pink Night,' Face Sidney and Malta in Final Matches Prior to Playoffs
The Scottie volleyball season is rapidly coming to a close. Another conference victory, this one over a very scrappy and determined Harlem team, put the Scotties closer to finishing on top of the 2B District. But there are two more important matches before tourney time.
GHS travels to Sidney for a re-match against the Class A Eagles. Overpowering offense kept the Scotties out of the game two weeks ago, but they are aiming for a different outcome this time. Hopefully the extra hours of defensive practice, along with a focus on more fire power from their own side of the court, will move the girls toward a late-season victory. In any event, this strong match will provide good insight into what the Scotties can expect at their own District and Divisional Tournaments.
Only one last match stands between them and the District title, but it's against formidable foe, Malta, who is also actively seeking the top spot. This healthy rivalry should result in an exciting finale for all GHS fans and players, right here on their own home turf.
The volleyball team will be hosting Pink Night, wearing pink jerseys which were generously donated by an anonymous fan, selling pink leis, and selling serves at the game: buy a serve for $1 and try to hit a player across the net for a pizza certificate to Eugene's or Pizza Hut. Both of these establishments agreed to join in the fun without hesitation - more proof of the amazing support this community consistently provides.
In addition to Pink Night, the match on Thursday evening is also Senior Night. This will be a great opportunity to see the seniors in action. Competing in their final season are Katie Brandt, Rachel Mickelson, Lauren Runningen, Tavia Fairclough, Rikki Stormy and Keirsten Wethern. C squad is set to start at 4 p.m., JV should take the court around 5:15, and varsity action will begin right afterward at around 6:30.
