Youth Deer Hunt During Fall Break, General Opener Around the Corner

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks is reminding youngsters that a hunt for deer, limited to eligible hunters between the ages of 12–15, will take place this Thursday and Friday, Oct. 15–16, 2015. These dates coincide with Montana's annual 2-day teachers' convention, which are no-school days for most public school students.

The 2-day youth hunt is open to:

-Legally licensed 12-15 year olds who have completed hunter education and who are accompanied by a non-hunting adult at least 18 years of age;

-Properly certified and legally licensed apprentice hunters 10-15 years of age who are accompanied by a non-hunting adult "mentor" at least 21 years of age.

FWP also wants to remind hunters that archery season for deer and elk ends on Sunday, Oct. 18. This will be followed by the 5-day "off week" for deer and elk before the general opener on Saturday, Oct. 24.

An exception to the "off week" in Region 6 is for those youth who hold a 621-00 or 631-01 Elk B license. These lucky permit holders can begin hunting their cow elk on Thursday, Oct. 22, through the rest of the general season.
