Scotties Leap to Top of Class 2-B Standings

Weekend Wins Over Poplar, Malta Pull Glasgow Above its Peers

Chalk up two more victories for the Scottie volleyball team. After facing conference foes Poplar and Malta last week.

Those matches concluded the first round of conference play and the Scotties are currently on top of the 2-B District. All teams play each other one more time before the District tournament but seeding in that tournament is important so each match is important.

At home on Thursday the Scotties worked hard for a three-game victory over Poplar, going 25-18, 25-18, 25-12.

Tenacious defense and strong serving from both teams made for a charged atmosphere and exciting match but the Scotties, for once slightly taller than their opponents, muscled through and clinched the win.

Great team chemistry and constant energy, definitely fueled in part once again by the amazing student section, were key elements in that win.

On Saturday the team travelled to Malta and earned another victory in three straight sets: 25-17, 25-18, 25-19. Malta's block and strong serving subdued the Scotties at times, but the GHS serving, offensive balance and defensive persistence were more than the M'ettes could handle that day.

A very solid GHS JV team also handed Malta a three-set defeat!.The GHS C squad played hard against Malta but weren't able to capitalize this time around.

JV and C squads face Williston at home on Thursday, games start at 4:00pm. Varsity travels to Dickinson, N.D. on Friday for a very aggressive invitational tournament featuring many of the best teams from Montana and North Dakota.
