Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

Elmer E. "Red" Whitten

Elmer E. "Red" Whitten of Nashua, Mont., 57, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2015.

He was born to parents Elmer and Mary Whitten on Aug. 26, 1957, in Canyon, Texas. He was the oldest of three boys and attended Canyon High School. On March 29, 1986, he married Connie Murch. The couple had four children.

He worked as a self-employed drywall finisher; at BNSF; and gunsmithing until he was diagnosed with lung and brain cancer in 2013.

He enjoyed his children and grandchildren very much. He was a wonderful father and husband. They had an awesome love and life together. He was a friend to everyone he met and loved to visit with all he saw. He was full of life and loved to joke around with everyone. He knew the meaning of love and life and was full of both. He was a true southern gentleman, opening the doors for Connie and taking her arm to walk side by side with her.

He loved going to the range to sight in guns and he loved to hunt. Most of all, he loved being with his family and playing with his grandkids. His laughter, kindness and smile we will always miss but never forget.

Survivors include his wife, Connie; his mother, Mary Whitten, of Canyon, Texas; four children, Michael Myrick and his wife, Erin, and their children, Ashtyn, Blaine, Cade and Davyn, of Glasgow; a daughter, April Block and her husband, Jesse, and their children, Keigan Skolrud and Kambryn Block, of Nashua; a daughter, Krystal Cahill and her husband, Brian, and their son, Mason Reid Cahill of Killeen, Texas; and a son, James Whitten of Billings; two brothers, Erik Whitten of Canyon, and Evan Whitten of Dallas, Texas; Connie's parents, Walt and Darlene Murch; two sisters-in-law, Peggy Lauckner and Lori Kolstad and their families; a brother-in-law, Dave Murch, and his family; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 29, at the First Lutheran Church in Glasgow, followed by a luncheon at the church.
