Terry Lee Mercer, 65, passed away Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015, in Houston, Texas, surrounded by family and friends after nearly a 15-year battle with cancer.
A celebration of his life is planned for Thursday, July 2, at Stoughie's Terrace in Hinsdale.
He was born Sept. 18, 1949, to George "Sam" and Marlys (McElvain) Mercer in Glasgow. He attended schools in Hinsdale, graduating in 1967.
He met and married Freda Bustos in November 1970. They moved to Valley County, where he went to work for the Valley County Sheriff's Department. They had a daughter, Colleen. He and Freda divorced later, after moving to Arizona.
He then moved to Houston, where he went to work for his cousins at Information Network International, a record and electronic information management firm from which he retired in 2014.
He was preceded in death by his father, George R. Mercer.
Survivors include one daughter, Colleen Martin, and her husband, Mat; granddaughters, Emily and Daytona Martin of Bella Vista, Ark.; his mother, Marlys Mercer of Hinsdale; a brother, Gary Mercer and his wife, Barb, of Shelby; a very special cousin, Barbara Mercer; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.
At Terry's request, his body was to be offered to M. D. Anderson's Center for Cancer Research in Houston.
